Creating your assets
BulbThings is all about asset management! To start using BulbThings efficiently, you will need to create your assets. To do so, go into the Assets section of the left menu, and click on Inventory. In this page, you will have access to the full detailed list of your assets organised by type of assets.
In the application, you can, by default, create many types of assets: Cars, Trucks, Phones, Printers, Computers. We also provide the option of creating new asset types using the “Generic” asset type template!
Yet, if you wish to request a new specific asset type with specific data fields, you can do so by subscribing to our Advanced Plan to get up to 5 new asset types, or to the Premium for 10 new asset types (they will appear directly from the menu and with the specific fields added for you)
On this page, you can filter, sort and export your assets. And you can also select which columns you would like to display, to be able to customise the list according to your wishes.
To create a new asset, click on the [+ Create] button on the top right of the table, a pop-up will open.
Step 1: Select your assets lifecycle phase
The first step in the manual creation of assets involves selecting the life-cycle state of the asset. BulbThings defines three main phases in the lifecycle, in order to create assets at different states. This is easily visualised with the timeline. You only have to click on top of the large dot on the timeline to define the current state of your asset.
The default state is Active (Delivered). But you can also create a Quotation Request or an Order. If you do so, and if you select a supplier (in the suppliers list you’ve previously created), they will automatically receive an email with your request.
Also, you need to define how many assets are to be created. If you create more than one asset, all the assets will be duplicated: it will automatically create a new unique ID that can be easily changed afterwards, by editing the asset.
Don’t forget to scroll down to view other fields that you are required to fill in before being able to proceed to the next step.
The mandatory fields are the ones indicated with a red asterisk, you have to fill them in to go to the next step!
Step 2: Enter your assets details
The second step in asset creation involves providing details of your asset. You need to fill the mandatory fields marked with the red asterisk (*).
The field that has an exclamation mark is not mandatory; for more information on the required content of the field, place the cursor over the exclamation mark triangle symbol. In this example, the necessary data is the Vehicle Identification Number or VIN.
You can fill the non-mandatory now, or later. Keep in mind that the more data you enter into BulbThings, the more relevant your Dashboard and KPIs will be!
Step 3: Allocate your asset
Finally, you can choose to allocate this asset to a user or an organisational structure. To do so, the user or the structure needs to have been previously created.
Once your assets created, you can do various operations on them, like selecting a group of them in the list, and allocating them to one user or structures in one shot!
